Independent practice · Owner-led

About Ashish

An independent practice. One person. You deal with him directly. I'm Ashish, with seven years of professional web work - contributing to over 500 websites and projects through agencies and teams. Overbuilt is my independent practice, so business owners can deal with me directly instead of through a chain of accounts, managers and freelancers.

How I work

Every engagement starts with a written scope and quote. Before a website or store is built, you get a clear document - what will be delivered, how many revisions, by when, what is not included. A clear written bill at handover. You review the work before it goes live. The domain and hosting remain under the business's control; agreed files and access are listed clearly in the handover.

What I believe about websites

For most Indian businesses, a website becomes a symbol of "presence" - how it looks, how it ranks, how agency-like it feels. My experience says the real job of a website is different: convince a customer you're real, answer their questions, and keep the enquiry path clear. Everything else (SEO, design, animation) is a layer on top. That's why Overbuilt doesn't sell a "5-page package" - I understand the business first, then decide what should be built.

What not to expect

  • Guaranteed Google rankings or sales - no honest developer offers those.
  • A ten-person agency turnaround - I'm one person and timelines are set honestly.
  • Invented testimonials or fabricated case studies - I show only work I actually delivered.
  • "Rank #1 in 30 days" claims - I build the SEO foundation, but rankings depend on many factors outside anyone's control.

Who I work best with

  • A real business building a website for real customers - not a vanity project.
  • Willing to be involved during the project - review calls, content approvals, feedback rounds.
  • Value a written scope - not looking for a "just do everything" contract.
  • A business or freelancer able to receive a written invoice and approve the scope.

What owner-led means in practice

The person in the conversation stays responsible for the decisions and the build.

Being independent is not merely about team size. It means the details heard during discovery are less likely to be diluted between sales, account management and production.

01

Discovery and scope

I identify customer questions, service area, the current enquiry process and the website’s primary action. Those inputs become the page map and written deliverables.

02

Content decisions

Generic claims are replaced with useful facts: process, limitations, proof, policies and the details a customer actually uses to make a decision.

03

Build and review

I turn the agreed direction into responsive pages and present it at defined checkpoints. Corrections and new requests are tracked separately so the scope stays understandable.

04

Launch and handover

Important journeys, forms, indexing controls and access are checked. The business receives the accounts and agreed files listed in the quotation.

Putting the experience claim in context

“500+ contributions” does not mean 500 Overbuilt clients.

It is a career-wide figure covering contributions to websites and web projects through agencies and teams. Overbuilt is a newer independent practice, so I do not present that number as an Overbuilt client count or a catalogue of agency case studies.

What can be verified

Scope, invoices, project communication, delivered pages and handover items are documented for the current engagement.

What is not invented

A client logo, testimonial, traffic number or result is published only when there is evidence and permission to show it.

What you should compare

Look beyond a portfolio count: compare the proposed scope, ownership, platform logic, running cost and communication process.

Due diligence

Review the process and pricing before deciding.

Seven years, one honest arc

From agency delivery to an independent practice.

Overbuilt is not a brand that was suddenly launched. It is the practical output of one developer's work - websites delivered for hoteliers, D2C brands, manufacturers, coaching institutes and professional services - brought directly to Indian business owners without a chain of accounts and managers.

01

Types of work

Business websites, ecommerce stores, redesigns, migrations, custom themes and plugin development. Hands-on contribution across WordPress, Shopify and custom PHP stacks.

02

Industries served

Hospitality, D2C, manufacturing, coaching, professional services, wedding businesses, real estate and SaaS. Each industry has a different enquiry pattern; that pattern is what shows up in Overbuilt scoping.

03

Tools used day to day

PHP, WordPress core APIs, custom themes, Shopify Liquid, HTML/CSS/JS, Git, staged deployments, structured data and analytics. Nothing exotic - the toolset is chosen for reliable delivery.

04

Gator AI (own plugin)

Under the DevGator brand, Ashish maintains his own WordPress plugin covering SEO, autolinking, schema, IndexNow, sitemaps and AI-assisted content. It integrates with native WordPress tools when a project needs it.

Why an independent practice

Fewer middle layers. More accountability.

In agency setups the sales call is often taken by one person, project management by another, development by a third team, and bug fixing sometimes drifts across all three. An independent practice removes that chain - decision, build and post-launch ownership sit with one person. The trade-off is real: several large parallel projects are not possible, so only a limited number of active engagements run each month.

One person, one scope

The same person is responsible for scope, communication, build and handover. Details are less likely to be lost between hand-offs.

No hidden overhead

Agency sales, account management, project management and team overheads are not baked into the quote. Cost flows into delivery instead.

Specialists disclosed

When a project needs a design specialist, a photographer or extra scope, trusted collaborators are added - and disclosed in the quote, not marked up silently.

Honesty about limits

For enterprise ERP integrations, 24/7 on-call ecommerce operations or multi-region agency work, I refer projects honestly instead of accepting them. Not every brief is a fit.

Trust before signing

Confirm these before paying an advance.

This checklist is not Overbuilt-specific - asking any developer to confirm these items in writing before an advance protects the business more than any review or star rating.

  1. 01

    Written scope

The page list, features, revision count, exclusions, third-party costs and handover items should be recorded in writing.

  2. 02

    Clear invoice

The business name, project description, payment terms and final total should be clear on the invoice.

  3. 03

    Account ownership

Domain, hosting, business email, platform admin and analytics should all be registered in the business's name.

  4. 04

    Communication channel

Reply timing, channel (WhatsApp/email) and a single point of contact should be agreed at the start.

  5. 05

    Post-launch defect period

The support window immediately after launch and the separate maintenance plan afterwards should be clarified in writing.

Working style

What working together looks like.

Written first, calls when needed

WhatsApp and email are the primary channels. Discovery and milestone reviews use scheduled calls - random calls are avoided to protect focus.

One project at a time per slot

Only a limited number of active engagements each month. That keeps timelines realistic and stops reviews from queuing up.

Weekly update, monthly review

Longer projects get a short weekly written update and a monthly review call. Smaller builds are updated at each milestone.

After the handover

Small fixes are included during the agreed defect window. After that, work moves to a maintenance retainer or a per-task quote - both transparent.

What DevGator adds

Ashish's own WordPress plugin toolset.

For Overbuilt clients this brings two practical advantages: the Gator AI plugin performs theme-level SEO, autolinking and schema using native WordPress APIs, and one person maintains it (no third-party licence quietly expires). It is an option, not a mandate. The same durable practices apply to custom themes and Shopify projects even without the plugin.

01

Native WordPress APIs

Custom fields, meta, the block editor and REST are used - no heavy page builders or vendor lock-in.

02

Schema and IndexNow

Organization, Article, Service and Breadcrumb schema emit clean JSON-LD. IndexNow notifies participating engines of changes.

03

One-owner support

The plugin author and the project developer are the same person - a plugin bug and a project feature are resolved through the same channel.

04

Optional, not forced

If a client already prefers a specific SEO plugin, that stays. The choice is with the client - no lock-in.

Wherever you are in the journey

First website or fifth - the standard stays the same.

Let's talk

Get in touch

Tell me about the business - I'll write a real quote.

You do not need a technical brief. What the business does, who it serves, and the problem you have right now - that is enough to start.
