B2B website for a Punjab manufacturer or exporter

Short answer: a marketplace listing can generate discovery, while an own-domain website gives a buyer a stable place to verify the company, products, specifications, quality process and enquiry route. The two can work together. The website should publish only current, approved facts and should never invent certifications, export markets, production capacity or compliance claims.

Start with the buyer’s due-diligence questions

A useful manufacturer website helps a procurement team decide whether to start a conversation. Its page plan should answer:

Do not publish a customer name, certification logo, production figure or export territory without the business’s documented approval. “Export quality” is not a specification.

Choose the right website structure

StructureBest fitCore contentPrimary action
Credential siteA focused product range sold through agents, fairs or existing relationshipsCompany, capability, selected products, quality process and contactDiscuss a requirement
Catalogue siteSeveral categories or products that buyers compare before contacting salesCategory and product pages, approved specifications, downloads and enquiry contextRequest a quote or sample
Configured enquiryProducts depend on material, size, finish, quantity or custom optionsGuided option selection with validation and a requirements summarySubmit a structured RFQ
Online orderingStandardised products, prices, territories, tax, shipping and payment rules are readyCatalogue plus stock/pricing rules, checkout, policies and order operationsPlace an order

Do not add checkout merely because the word “catalogue” appears in the brief. If price and fulfilment still need sales approval, a well-designed request-for-quotation flow is usually clearer.

Build product pages from controlled data

Create a repeatable product-data sheet before designing pages. Depending on the product, fields may include model, material, dimensions, tolerances, finish, standards, test method, packaging, minimum quantity, capacity basis, drawing or brochure, and the date the specification was approved. Use units consistently and state whether a value is typical, minimum, maximum or configurable.

HS classification, export documentation and product compliance are not copywriting guesses. Have the authorised business team, customs broker or appropriate adviser approve them. DGFT’s current guidance says an Importer Exporter Code is generally required for import/export activities, subject to stated exemptions; details and status should be checked through the official DGFT service. BIS explains that compulsory certification applies only to notified products and publishes the current product lists and process.

Show evidence without oversharing

Useful evidence may include the legal business name, operating address, relevant registrations, an approved factory overview, quality process, test capability, certification number and issuing body, and dated downloadable documents. Link to an official verification page where one exists. Redact signatures, personal IDs, bank details and other information that a buyer does not need.

A logo is not proof. Record the certificate owner, scope, sites/products covered and expiry date, then schedule a content review before it expires.

Design the enquiry around the sales workflow

Ask only for information that changes qualification or the next reply. A B2B form might use company, country, business email, product, target quantity, specification or drawing upload, intended use and message. Make phone optional unless the sales process genuinely needs it at first contact. State allowed file types and size, where submissions go, retention responsibility and the expected response window only if the business can meet it.

Send a confirmation to the buyer, route the enquiry to a monitored address and test attachment, spam and failure handling. A WhatsApp button can supplement the form, but it should not be the only route for an international procurement team.

Compare quotes by work, not by a generic page count

A five-page credential site and a fifty-product catalogue are different projects. Compare discovery, product-data cleanup, copy responsibility, photography, downloads, languages, CMS fields, enquiry logic, accessibility, search metadata, analytics, testing, training, licences and ongoing maintenance. The final quote should identify the assumptions and recurring provider costs.

Overbuilt projects start from ₹8,000 for the stated baseline scope. A manufacturer catalogue is quoted after product count, data readiness, content responsibility, filters, downloads, languages and enquiry workflow are known; the starting price is not a promise that every catalogue fits that amount.

Punjab manufacturer website questions

Should a manufacturer replace marketplace listings with its own website?

Not automatically. A marketplace and an own-domain site serve different roles. Keep channels that produce useful enquiries, while using the website as the controlled source for current company, product and contact information.

Does a B2B catalogue need ecommerce checkout?

No. If specifications, quantities, prices, shipping or approval vary, a structured RFQ can fit better. Checkout makes sense only when the commercial and operating rules are ready.

Should product pages display HS codes?

Only when the business’s authorised trade or customs adviser has approved the classification and there is a review process. Classification can depend on product facts and rules; the web developer should not invent it.

Can the site claim ISO or BIS certification?

Only when the claim is current and its owner, scope, covered products/sites and issuing body are accurate. Link to official verification where available and remove or update expired claims.

What affects the catalogue website quote?

Product and variant count, data quality, page templates, filters, copy, media, downloads, language, RFQ logic, integrations, migration, testing and handover. Ask for these assumptions in writing.

Plan the catalogue

Send the product count and one sample data sheet.

A public catalogue or spreadsheet is enough for an initial structure discussion. Do not send confidential buyer data.
